My name is Greta, I'm 18 and live in Chicago. (If you switch the "T" and the "A" in my name, you get "Great" pretty cool
huh?!)
My goal in life is to be happy. I'm not much for school, don't get me wrong knowledge is power, but there's so much you
can do outside a desk. I'm all for doing what you want, and going with the flow. Whatever happens happens.
I was born with one hand/forearm. I'm right handed, wear a shiny silver hook, and have attachments for most sports. And
no I don't spend my time locked in a closet because of it. It's basically the exact opposite. Being an amp has let me do sooo
many things that freaks (Normal, 20 digited people) wouldn't have the opportunity to do. The Rehab Institute (Best in America
14 yrs running) had a kick ass sports program. We went on tons of overnight/week long trips like camping, skiing, SCUBA diving,
climbing, kayaking and lots of other things people don't think that gimps can do. (We call eachother gimps, and it's ok to
call someone a gimp only if you personally know them, and you're joking around. If you don't know someone and you call them
a gimp, you're bogus. Don't do that.)
I started cycling competitively in May of '05. I saw the track racing at the Athens Paralympics and was sooo stoked! As
soon as I got home I found a local team so I could do that. I race track (velodrome) and road. The xXx Juniors throw down!
Just watch the lakefront path for the riders in red/black. That's us. I made the US Paralympic National team this
past July. Based on my results at Nationals, I made the World Championship team, that went to Switzerland this September.
I'll competed in both road and track events there. I rode personal bests in all of my races, and finished with two 7ths, one
6th, and one 5th place finish.
I grew up playing soccer. I started when I was 6 and played just about year long through High School. I was
on my high school's varsity squad for 3 1/2 years. After 12 straight years of the same thing, I figure it's time to take a
break. It's good timing though, the injuries didn't help my cycling at all, and the build of a soccer player is very different
from that of a cyclist.
I also snowboard, wakeboard, and kayak/canoe. This winter I'd like to do more skiing. Hopefully I'll be able to get out
west a lot.
I'm a freshman at Indiana University in Bloomington (Think
"Breaking Away")
That's me in a nutshell. How did I get inside this nutshell? What kind of nut has a shell this big??
